Thanks to the Oscars going hostless this year, this year’s Emmys decided to do the same.
While the idea of no host helps keep things along, it has to be balanced right in terms of humor and banter and the Emmys almost had it.
What was the problem: so many dumb jokes that weren’t necessary. If the presenters saved time and stuck to what they had to say through the teleprompter, it could’ve been amazing.
The speeches overall were okay but it was the powerful opening about TV by Bryan Cranston and Tony Shalhoub, Alex Borenstein, Michelle Williams, Peter Dinklage, Craig Mazin, Ben Whishaw and David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (the creators of Game of Thrones) whose speeches were the best out of everyone that won during the evening.
Halsey’s performance of Time After Time during In Memoriam was astoundingly amazing while the biggest shock of the night was Fleabag winning over Veep and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for Best Comedy Series.
Overall this year’s Emmys were okay, but the event itself is on the right track for not having a host but still need a lot of work next year and beyond to earn that right.
