2020 Oscars QuickViews

The mother of all award shows wonderfully arrived early: the Oscars.

Thanks to Janelle Monae, the Oscars opened with a wonderful musical number although Monae could’ve done better. Steve Martin and Chris Rock had some great jokes to start the event, thanks to both of them hosting the Oscars more than once.

The only bit that wasn’t as bad were Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus presenting Best Cinematography and Film Editing, but not as terrible as Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph’s banter during Best Costume and Production Design (you’re better off seeing them on SNL and in Bridesmaids).

All the great wins were what you would expect (especially in the Acting categories), but none was prepared when Parasite won not just Best International Feature Film but also Original Screenplay, Director and most shockingly Best Picture (over 1917).

Overall the show was okay but the fact that the last 4 or 5 categories got more time to speak was great. It’s definitely something that has potential to continue on come next year.
