For those who want a real biography of Judy Garland, check out Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows starring Emmy winners Judy Davis and Tammy Blanchard both as Garland.
Set in 1969 Judy Garland (Renee Zellweger) is broke with 2 children she can’t mentally support. When she gets an opportunity to perform dozens of shows through Talk of the Town in London, Judy takes it not knowing the spiral her last year of her life will take. In between the movie, the story jumps back to 1939 at the peak of her career when her life began to semi-spiral out of control during the making of The Wizard of Oz.
Even though Zellweger gives it her all as Garland (thanks to her talent of singing as Roxy Heart from Chicago), Judy ends up being a movie that is slow and boring to watch. Something that could’ve fixed it would’ve been more backstory to her life in terms of how she ended up becoming who she was.
